An executive headshot has a narrower job than a general company photo. It appears on a leadership page, at the top of a press release, in an annual report and beside a quote in a trade publication, usually at a larger size than anyone else’s picture and often next to three or four colleagues. That combination punishes inconsistency: a board page where one director was photographed in a studio and another at a conference reads as a company that assembled its leadership by accident.

From a phone

A few selfies in, a headshot out.

Each person sends a handful of selfies from wherever they are. It takes about five minutes on a phone, with no studio to book and no photographer to schedule.

What the format has to do

Leadership photographs are reproduced larger and cropped harder than any other kind, so the framing has to survive being cut to a square for a press kit and stretched across a third of a page in a report.

They also have to age well: a director’s photograph stays in circulation for years, appearing in archived releases long after it was taken. The practical requirements are a neutral background that will not clash with a publication’s layout, even lighting, and enough headroom that a designer can crop without losing the shoulders.

How the executive team gets them

The senior team is the hardest group in a company to get into one room, which is why leadership photographs are so often mismatched. Here an admin creates the organisation, picks one style, and invites each executive by email.

They consent, upload a set of selfies from their phone between meetings, and receive 40 frames about an hour later. Because the style belongs to the organisation, a chief executive who uploads on Tuesday and a chair who uploads three weeks later still end up with the same background and framing.

Review before anything is published

Executive photographs are usually signed off by communications rather than by the executive alone. Approval can be switched on so a finished set is held for review before the director hears about it, and the organisation’s gallery and archive carry only the people who have been approved.

Sending a set back means writing why, and the director gets a second attempt at no cost, the sensible route when the issue is a jacket rather than the person. Images are handed out as signed links with a short life, never as a public address.

The result

Everyone, in the same light.

Choose a backdrop and an outfit once. Every person who joins is generated inside that style, so the team page finally looks like one team rather than a collage of whoever had a photo.

Frequently asked questions

Can the leadership team use a different style from everyone else?

The style is set per organisation, so a company that wants a distinct leadership look runs a separate organisation for it. Most keep one style, since the point of the format is that the board page and the team page belong to the same company.

How large are the files?

Forty frames at full size per person, which is enough for a printed report as much as a web page. Where a brand template has been set up, a branded version is produced alongside, in two sizes.

What if a director does not like any of the results?

An admin can grant a retry credit so they can upload a different set of selfies. With approval switched on, sending a set back grants that retry on its own, without spending anything.

What does it cost for a board of eight?

A board of eight is eight credits, just past the first threshold of five, so it buys at 20% off $39. Extending later to the wider management team pushes the account towards the twenty-five-credit rung and a deeper reduction.
